How Beginners Can Make The Most Of Their Muay Thai Training

If you’re a beginner, knowing a few things beforehand can help you get the most out of time, effort and money. Regardless of whether your purpose for Muay Thai training is to compete or simply to learn, these few tips can help you get the most out of your training.

  1. Be open about your weaknesses. Before you start training, be honest about just how fit you currently are. Of course, you don’t have to be in top shape to start training. However, it’s important that you know your strengths and most especially, your weaknesses. This is so as to make it easier for you to find the proper training regimen that can help you improve the most.

  1. Do your research. Not all gyms mean well. That’s the reality of things. Some simply just are after your money. True, they’ll still teach you, but you won’t be getting the most out of your time and money from such kinds of gyms. As such, make sure that you do your research. Ask around. You might even want to try enrolling in a session or two first to get a feel of things. If you don’t like what you see, then don’t be afraid to look for another gym. Surely, there’s more than a couple of gyms that offer Muay Thai training in your area.

  1. Be kind and respectful. Treat yourself and everybody else in the gym with utmost respect and kindness. Do that, and pretty soon, you’ll find yourself with more than a few sparring partners to spare. Not only that, but some of the veteran fighters may even try to take you under their wing and give you some useful tips and advice. Remember, you’re not the only one there to learn. So, be sure to treat others with respect and kindness. 
  1. Eat and rest well. You may find yourself eating a bit more than usual when during Muay Thai training. Don’t be surprised. That’s simply the result of the increased workload on your body. Don’t be afraid to eat a bit more than usual, but not too much as to sabotage your fitness goals. Eat balanced meals loaded with whole foods and try to avoid processed foods, such as those with refined sugar and chemicals. Also, don’t forget to give yourself enough time to rest before and after each session.

  1. Have fun. Nobody ever said that you can’t train efficiently while having fun, right? Muay Thai training may be physically demanding, but it need not to be emotionally draining too. If you’re a beginner, see the humor in your mistakes. Talk to the other people in the gym. Hang out with them outside the gym if you can. Just do anything that can help you to have fun while training. Remember, your body performs much better when you’re having fun and relaxed.
